It’s a question that comes up often in my training sessions: how can I get hold hold of a journalist to sell my story? I’d like to help communicators tackle this issue – so I want to hear from you.
I’m putting together a new course for NUJ Training Wales, to help people find and contact journalists and secure coverage. While I have personal experience of this – both as a journalist and charity comms manager – I’d like to include a range of experiences.
Communicators – what’s your experience?
Do you work as a media or comms officer? If so, how easy or difficult has it been to create good working relationships with reporters? What are common challenges? Have any tactics worked well and would you like to share them?
Journalists – how can media officers help you?

What would you say to a comms officer if they want to offer you potential stories? How can they help you to do your job? Is there anything they do that gets on your nerves and they should avoid at all costs?
Let me know what you think
I’d like to hear your feedback by Friday 26 January 2024 – leave a comment below or drop me an email. Your contribution will be used as part of my training sessions and your information will be used in line with my privacy policy.
Many thanks in advance for your help.
